Substantial Gentleman's Victorian 18ct gold signet ring engraved with a seated Griffin.

The griffin is a mythological beast with the body of a lion and the head of an eagle. Lions are traditionally regarded as the king of the beasts and eagles the king of the birds, therefore the griffin was viewed as a very majestic and powerful creature.

The inside of the shank is engraved with "HG from JMT 1 Dec 1874". The ring is stamped with the manufacturers mark - C.G and fully hallmarked with 18 and 1873 Birmingham stamps.

The head of the ring measures 1.5cm or 0.6 inches in height and 1.2cm (0.5cm) in width   It is in excellent condition except for five pin prick flaws in the gold on the left side of the head of the ring.  These are barely eye visible.  The ring has also been resized in the past, but this is only visible as a faint line on the inside of the shank.

It is size N or 7 and weighs 13.5 grams.
