Victorian gold mounted shell cameo of Flora the mistress of flowers. Flora is depicted as a beautiful young nymph in a classical gown with a crown of flowers in her hair because she symbolises spring. The engraved gold mount (untested) is circled by a flowing ribbon border which is entwined with gold wire.
The cameo shell is perfect condition, with no stresslines. There is a split in the join of the outer gold ribbon and the ribbon overlaps slightly at this point. This is not noticeable and does not detract from the beauty of the piece.
The brooch is not hallmarked and measures 6.5cm (2.6 in) by 5cms (2 in).
