Beautiful completely handmade late Victorian 18ct gold acrostic ring. The initial letter of each gemstone in the ring spells the word "ADORE'. A-amethyst, D-diamond, O- opal, R - ruby and E - emerald. The gems are individually claw set in a "London Bridge" style and the shoulders are engraved with a scroll pattern. The ring contains one round brilliant cut natural amethyst, an Old European cut diamond (with an estimated weight of 0.40ct), a cabochon cut Australian opal, a round brilliant cut natural ruby and a round brilliant cut emerald. The ring weighs 4.13 grams, is stamped 18 and is size 5 or J-K. It is in excellent condition. Acrostic jewellery was very popular throughout the Victorian era. Other common combinations of gemstones include: L-lapis lazuli, O-opal, V-vermeil, E-emerald for LOVE; D-diamond, E-emerald, A-amethyst, R-ruby, E-emerald, S-sapphire, T-topaz for DEAREST; R-ruby, E-emerald, G-garnet, A-amethyst, R-ruby, D-diamond for REGARD. |
