Lovely matching 18ct gold, amethyst, diamond and synthetic emerald earring and dress ring set in their original Garrad boxes. The ring has a central deep purple amethyst (estimated weight 0.75ct); four round brilliant cut diamonds (0.07ct each), Colour G or Fine White and Clarity VS; and two pear cut synthetic emeralds with an estimated weight of 0.12ct each.
The ring is stamped 750, and has a crown and G & Co hallmark. It is size Q or 8.
The earrings have two oval cut natural amethysts (estimated weight 1.4ct each), both are of good colour; four round brilliant cut diamonds (0.02ct each) and two pear cut synthetic emeralds with an estimated weight of 0.15ct each. The earring drop measures 1.6cm or 0.6 inches.
The earrings have post and butterfly attachments. They are not hallmarked, but test as 18ct.
The earrings are in excellent condition, while the ring has minor surface scratches to the emeralds and amethyst, these are only visible with a jewellers lens. The set comes with an independent valuation from a registered jewellery valuer.
The mix of colours used in the set have significance for women because they are the same as those used by the British suffragette group created by Emmeline Pankhurst in 1903. The purple (amethyst) stood for freedom and dignity, the white (diamond) for purity, and the green (emerald) is the colour of hope and the emblem of spring.
Garrad, founded in 1735, is a high end London jeweller. Important historical pieces of Garrad jewellery can be found in museums around the world. Queen Victoria bestowed the title of Crown Jeweller on Garrad, consequently they were commissioned to work on some of the most important Royal jewels held in the Tower of London.
