18ct gold shell cameo brooch, circa 1890 with a carving depicting the painting 'Ecce homo' by Antonio Ciseri (1821-1891). The painting portrays the scene where Pontius Pilate presents the captive Jesus to the people, saying 'Ecce homo or Behold the man', Gospel of John (19:5).
The cameo measures 6cm (2.4 in) by 4.5cm (1.8 in). It is very finely carved and does not show any signs of wear or fractures - it is in perfect condition. The gold mount is not hallmarked but has tested 18ct, and the clasp is secure.
The cameo comes with a valuation from a registered Australian valuer.
