The reverse side of the brooch features a hair or photo compartment which is empty and is engraved 'J M DORAN'.  The brooch measures 5cm (2 in) wide by 3.75cm (1.5 in).  The brooch is in excellent condition and comes with a valuation from a registered Australian valuer.

Etruscan jewellery was popular in the 19th century and was based on the designs of ancient jewellers from Etruria (now known as Tuscany) a pre-Roman civilisation in Italy.
