Very collectable 15ct gold Halley's Comet brooch set with a seed pearl and a red paste in a white enamel surround. Circa 1910.
The brooch measures 5.9 cm or 2.3 inches. It is stamped with the manufacturers mark (FROV) and is not hallmarked but tests as 15ct gold.
The brooch is in excellent condition with few signs of wear and only minor scratching to the white enamel. The clasp is secure.
The return of Halley's Comet in 1910 was a momentous occasion because it was the first orbit in history that photographs could be taken of the comet (see attached 1910 photograph).
The comet also passed close to the earth and was clearly visible to the naked eye. Its visit generated massive public interest and media attention.
