About Us

Welcome to Jouel, an online antique jewellery store specialising in fine antique, vintage and estate jewellery, mainly crafted prior to the 1940s.  The owner, Bev Shields has been collecting, buying and selling antiques and antique jewellery for 12 years and is a member of the Society of Jewellery Historians.

We are based in Brisbane Australia, and we source our jewellery from within Australia, as well as internationally from countries such as New Zealand, Canada, America, Europe and the United Kingdom.  New items are being added to the collection every week and we showcase pieces priced from $100 upwards.

What's in a Name

The word "jouel" is a 13th century French word for jewel and is derived from the Latin word "jocale" which means plaything.

Website

Based on the web, with no physical shop, our virtual boutique is the perfect way to showcase our collection and make it accessible to clients around the world.  The website is a work in progress and additional articles of interest will be added over the coming weeks including one on paste jewellery and an introduction to gemstones used in antique jewellery.
